Chronic Fatigue Syndrome | Services | Medical Services

relaxationChronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a disease that causes a person to become so tired on a continuous basis, it becomes impossible for the individual to perform normal daily tasks. The prominent symptom of CFS is continual and profound fatigue that lasts more than 6 months. Physical or mental activity often make the symptoms worse, while resting often brings no improvement.

Other symptoms may include headaches of a new severity, type or pattern, loss of memory or concentration, sore throat, tender areas in the neck or underarm area, pain that moves from one joint to another without redness or swelling, difficulty sleeping, and deep exhaustion that lasts more than 24 hours after physical exertion.

Many CFS patients report additional symptoms which may include abdominal pain, bloating, alcohol intolerance, chest pain, chronic cough, diarrhea, dizziness, morning stiffness, nausea, night sweats, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, shortness of breath and tingling sensations.

CFS may begin during or after a period of unusual stress, or after an illness such as a cold.  It can also begin slowly, without any overt cause. Sometimes CFS can last for years. CFS is complicated and can be difficult to diagnose. Some people have a hard time accepting CFS as an illness. It's important to remember that your fatigue is real and that you can work with Dr. Jain and her team to improve your symptoms.

Mount Diablo Wellness with its multimodal treatment team, can provide the wide scope of measures both diagnostic and therapeutic, that are necessary to help you on the path to wellness. First you will be given a thorough examination including diagnostic tests to eliminate other possible causes of fatiguing illness. Since people with CSF present with different patterns of primary symptoms, underlying causes will be discussed and addressed, prioritizing the symptoms that are most important as you experience them.

Frequently patients with CSF are sensitive to medication and very small doses are effective when needed for pain management. Alternative therapies such as gentle massage, movement therapies and relaxation techniques can also be very effective in reducing pain and restoring movement. Meditation, yoga and cognitive therapies have been found beneficial in maintaining clarity and focused thoughts. Taking into account your symptoms and your lifestyle as an individual, CSF as you are experiencing it can be addressed on several levels in a comprehensive treatment plan designed just for you. We are here to help you on your path to wellness.
