Therapeutic Yoga and Pranayama
Many people think of yoga as merely the performance of physical postures. Yogic philosophy and practice is much broader and deeper than this. In our classes, we focus on the health of the individual by practicing rejuvenating therapeutic yogic exercises. This includes the following types of practices:
- Breathing exercises to: coordinate movement with the breath, deepen the breathing, decrease the respiration rate, and to increase internal awareness
- Loosening exercises to: expand the muscles, move the joints and to prepare the body for asanas
- Relaxation techniques
- Pranayama (yogic breathing)
Prana is the Sanskrit word for life-force, the energy that resides within us and throughout the universe. By using yogic breathing techniques called Pranayama, the Prana within us is controlled and channeled to promote purification and healing of the body, mind and emotions.
These classes are specially customized to help relieve clinical conditions such as:
- Acute and chronic back pain
- Chronic migraine/tension headaches
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome/Digestive disorders
- Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Diabetes/Hypertension/Coronary Artery Disease/High Cholesterol
